Cadbury Twirl Mint

Cadbury Twirl is one of my favourite bars in their range - the slightly crumbly Flake-like centre encased in a smooth layer of milk chocolate to stop the whole thing being too messy to eat. It's a simply yet satisfying chocolate bar. However in the U.K brand extension of the product has been non-existent (apart from Twirl bites but I'd hardly call those a different product), so when I saw that in Australia they had a mint flavoured Twirl, well I just had to buy it.

My first thought was as to whether the chocolate blend would be the same (most likely not) and comparing the ingredients list :

Cadbury Twirl Mint (Australia) - Full cream milk, sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, milk solids, emulsifiers (soy lechitin), flavours. Cocoa solids 27%, milk solids minimum 24%

Cadbury Twirl (U.K)  - Milk, sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, vegetable fats (palm, shea), whey powder (from milk), emulsifier (ammonium phosphatides), flavourings. Cocoa solids 25%, milk solids 14%

As I thought here in the U.K we have a far inferior product, Cadbury have slowly been downgrading the quailty of their chocolate in the U.K, bulking out a lot of their products with vegetable fats and in my opinion ruining the taste of many of their bars. It's nice to see that this doesn't appear to the be case in Australia, with higher milk solids also being present in the bar.

You can smell a faint mint aroma as soon as you open the bar, even though the exterior, coated with Dairy Milk chocolate, isn't flavoured with mint and it is just the inner chocolate swirls that have been flavoured.

In terms of the format and texture of the bar it's fairly similar to the Twirl in this country; however I did notice that it had a nicer, smoothier, less fatty/oily melt to it (due to no vegetable fats). In terms of taste even with the addition of the lovely, refreshing mint flavour to the bar I could tell that the milk chocolate being used was of superior quality to the U.K bar - it is richer, less sweet and has an overall creamier flavour, akin to what Cadbury used to be like here.

The mint flavour was spot on, not overpowering but most definitely there in full force, balancing well against the creamy chocolate. Another bar that I really wish would be brought out in the U.K, or at least the notion that Cadbury may play around with some other flavours of Twirl - however more than anything I just wish Cadbury would stop degrading the quality of their chocolate in the U.K as it doesn't seem like they're doing it in Australia that's for sure!

Taste - 7.7/10 - Refreshing mint flavour, creamy milk chocolate that isn't cloyingly sweet and a step above the Cadbury Twirl in the U.K.

Texture - 8.1/10 - Texture more akin to what Cadbury used to be like, that drier almost slightly crumbly texture with a richer, smoother melt.
Appearance - 7.0/10 - Fairly standard bar.
Price - 7.2/10 - £1.85 for 39g bar.
Overall - 7.5/10 - Superior quality Twirl with a nice flavour twist.

WHO FOR?
Mint chocolate lovers.

WHERE TO BUY?
In Australia I'd imagine this is widely available; although it does say 'limited edition' on the bar. I bought mine from Sanza here.
